.LAW and .ABOGADO are restricted TLDs that aim to promote trust in the professional legal community by creating exclusive online spaces in which lawyers that are regulated and licensed to practice law can present themselves in a distinctive and memorable manner. In order to fulfil this mission, the .LAW and .ABOGADO TLDs will offer domain names only to those verified applicants which satisfy the eligibility criteria detailed below. The strict eligibility criteria, which will be applied through a validation process, will enhance the integrity of the .LAW and .ABOGADO TLDs and ensure that internet users have the confidence that a .LAW or .ABOGADO registrant is an appropriately regulated and licensed legal professional.
In order to be eligible to register (and continue to be a registrant of) a domain name in the .LAW and .ABOGADO TLDs, the registrant must be a Qualified Lawyer. For the purposes of this eligibility criteria, a Qualified Lawyer is a professional who is licensed to practice law by an approved regulator of legal services in a given jurisdiction. A Qualified Lawyer must be identifiable as a currently licensed practitioner in the public records kept by the relevant approved regulator.
Applications for domain names in .LAW and .ABOGADO using a registrar proxy or privacy service or any other service having an equivalent effect will not be allowed.
The .LAW and .ABOGADO registries will engage an independent third party to carry out the verification of applicants against the eligibility criteria. The .LAW and .ABOGADO registries reserve the right for this third party to contact applicants in order to request any further information or supporting documentation that it deems necessary to satisfy itself as to whether or not an applicant meets the requirements of this eligibility policy. Please note, validated registrant information may be made public.
As the .LAW and .ABOGADO TLDs are open to registrations by registrants from anywhere in the world, what constitutes an appropriately regulated and licensed legal professional may vary between jurisdictions. For this reason, the .LAW and .ABOGADO Registries reserve the right to ask for any further proof of eligibility they consider appropriate and to exercise their complete discretion in the acceptance and rejection of applicants to ensure that the spirit of the eligibility criteria is met, in order to fulfil their mission of creating trusted online spaces for only regulated and licensed legal professionals.
Reserved Domain Names
Some domain names are reserved names; these are names which are ineligible for registration due to ICANN restrictions or Registry Operator designation.
