NIRA (NG Registry) released the list of NG premium domain names after the launch of .NG, which meant that domain names appearing on the list were later deleted by NIRA and the registrants refunded.
NIRA have now asked all NG registrars to communicate the following:
“Please, kindly, advise your clients that premium domains are available through an auction process, or at a Buy Now Bid Price of N1.5 Million per annum.
All Registrars concerned should, kindly, inform their clients who registered premium domains without the due process and/or appropriate pricing that in rectifying the anomaly, NIRA would give them the first offer of refusal. And, if this offer and payment is not concluded by May 1, 2013, the registration will be voided by May 2, 2013, and the domain shall return to the pool of Premium domains.”
N1.5 Million is approximately £6 600 or $10 100.
It is unclear whether one and two character domain names will form part of the auction process.
We have raised the question with NIRA and will post an update when a response is received.
Lexsynergy is a NG accredited registrar and can process .NG premium domain name registrations.
