.FR to Release One- and Two-Character Domain Names

Starting on 8 December, 2014, the .FR domain name extension will begin offering one- and two-character domain names on a first come - first served basis.

The opening will take place according to a specific timetable, in several phases:

Sunrise phase

From 8 December 2014, 14:00 UTC, to 9 February 2015, 23:59 UTC

Period during which rights holders can apply for the registration of their domain name(s) with 1 & 2 characters.

Landrush phase

From 16 February 2015, 14:00 UTC, to 16 March 2015, 23:59 UTC Period during which any interested party can apply for the registration of a domain name with 1 & 2 characters, provided it has not already been registered during the Sunrise phase. During this phase, Afnic will gradually apply price discounts.
Opening for the general public 17 March 2015, 14:00 UTC From this date onwards, any person can register domain names with 1 & 2 characters that were not registered during the Sunrise or Landrush phases.

 

Domain names available for registration

Domain names that are open for registration include those consisting of one and two numeric and/or alphabetic characters in the .fr TLD, that use the following ASCII and IDN alphanumeric characters:

a, à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, b, c, ç, d, e, è, é, ê, ë, f, g, h, i, ì, í, î, ï, j, k, l, m, n, ñ, o, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, oe, p, q, r, s, t, u, ù, ú, û, ü, v, w, x, y, ý, ÿ, z, ß, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, excluding the following character: - (minus sign). 

Sunrise

Who can apply?

To apply during the Sunrise, applicants must fall within one of the following categories and provide the supporting documents required:

Category of rights

Supporting documents required

French trademarks, Community trademarks, or international trademarks designating France. These trademarks must have been registered before 9 July 2012.

Trademark registration certificate.

French local authorities.

Official document with INSEE identification number.

Companies formed before 9 July 2012.

Company registration certificate (K-bis form).

Surnames of individuals.

National ID Card or Passport.

Landrush

Who can apply?

To apply during this phase, holding rights to a name is not required; the application must simply comply with the eligibility conditions of the .fr TLD.

Domain names with one- and two-characters that have not been registered during the Sunrise are available for registration. 

The first-come, first-served principle applies to all of these phases.
