The Registry Operator of the .IO (British Indian Ocean Territory), .AC (Ascension Island) and .SH (Saint Helena) extensions have announced that, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (“WIPO”), a new dispute resolution policy will be introduced on 1 June 2020.
The new .IO Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (the “.IO DRP”), .AC Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (the “.AC DRP”) and .SH Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (the “.SH DRP”) are a close variation of the widely adopted Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (the “UDRP”).
WIPO will administer the .IO, .AC and .SH domain name disputes in a similar manner to the UDRP.
The .IO DRP, .AC DRP and .SH DRP are intended to curb the abusive registration of domain names that conflict with trade marks.
