In the last few years, we have seen .eu become a popular domain for UK organisations with a European footprint. Many were looking for a cost-effective method to cover the continent without the complexity of buying individual country domains. Those businesses need to act in order to secure their domain before it is automatically deleted on the 1st of January 2021. This is because, as the United kingdom will be no longer part of the European Union, individuals, and companies will no longer be able to register or renew .eu domain names if: | ![]() |
Where you/your organisation does not meet the above criteria, their .eu domain names will be withdrawn. A withdrawn domain name no longer functions, as the domain name is removed from the zone file and can no longer support any active services. (such as websites or email).
Luckily there is still plenty of time to update your ownership details and Lexsynergy has made it very easy for our clients to keep their .eu domains.
Option 1: If your organisation has an address within one of the European Union Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway, this address can be used.
Option 2: Lexsynergy will provide a Local Presence in the European Union, completely free of charge.
Where you do not meet the required eligibility, and are not a Lexsynergy client (if not, why not!), then we would strongly advise you to transfer your .eu internet presence to another top-level domain and develop a migration plan for services and functions that your .eu domain, website, or associated email address is linked to or supports.
