Below we provide an update from EURid, the .eu registry, regarding the new eligibility restrictions for .eu domains:

• As of 1 January 2021 registrants of domain names with GB/GI as the residence country code or UK citizens residing outside EU/EEA countries are no longer in compliance with the .eu regulatory framework.
• Domain names assigned to registrants of domain names with GB/GI as the residence country code or UK citizens residing outside EU/EEA have been moved to the SUSPENDED status until 31 March 2021. Although the domain name(s) no longer function, they may still be reinstated if the registration data is updated to meet the eligibility criteria.
• As of 1 April 2021, the domain names in the SUSPENDED status will be WITHDRAWN. Although a WITHDRAWN domain name no longer functions and it is removed from the zone file, its record remains in the .eu registry database and can be reinstated.
• Registrants are given the opportunity to demonstrate their compliance with the .eu regulatory framework by updating their contact data (e.g. indicating a legally established entity in, or updating the residence to, one of the eligible EU27 or EEA Member States, or demonstrating their citizenship of one of the EU27 Member States) before 31 December 2021, 23:59:59 CET. During this period, the domain names may be reactivated if the eligibility criteria are satisfied.
• On 1 January 2022 00:00:00 CET, all WITHDRAWN domain names will be REVOKED, and will become AVAILABLE for general registration. For security and stability reasons, the release of all affected domain names will occur in batches from the time they become available.
