Afnic, the registry that manages the French ccTLD .fr, made the following announcements in regards to the eligibility criteria for .fr domains:

• As of 1 January 2021, residents and organizations in the UK will no longer meet the eligibility requirements to register a new .fr domain.
• Registrants based in the UK who registered their domains before 1 January 2021 may keep their domains and do NOT need to update their address. They are allowed to continue renewing their domains for as long as they wish.
• This new eligibility rule applies to all ccTLDs managed by Afnic which are: .fr (France), .re (Reunion Island), .yt (Mayotte), .pm (Saint Pierre and Miquelon), .wf (Wallis and Futuna Islands), and .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories).

For our UK clients who own .fr domains that were registered prior to 1 January 2021, no action is needed and your domains will remain valid. If a UK client wishes to register a .fr domain in the future, we offer a local presence service to ensure your registration meets the new eligibility requirements.
